This project began in February 2009 in Wilton Manors Florida at a drop in Center Called Fusion. I was
asked if I was interested in spearheading the project of names of men
and women, gay and straight, who made significant contributions to the
Gay Liberation Movement.
I had been very ill with strep throat that had
gone into my kidneys and I was unable to do much of anything. I took on
the project because I was alone and very afraid and it would keep me
focused on something other than my illness. As time went on the wall
project grew and I recovered. It presently has 120+ names on it and
continues to grow. The wall has traveled to Augusta Georgia and in
various venues in South Florida.
To explain the wall in more
detail, it is a series of 8x11 frames which have condensed one page
biographies and a photograph of those who helped change culture and
public opinion for gay, lesbian and transgendered persons. One hundred
percent of the proceeds will be given to various gay and lesbian
organizations. I feel that I have no right to make a profit off the
hard work and sacrifices of those who came before me and those who are
still fighting so that I can be who I was born to be.
I will be adding photographs of
the wall and the complete listing of the names added thus far. This
project continues to attract attention and as this website grows so
will the wall.
